A special announcement from our Board

From The North Grove Board of Directors

Today we are sharing the news that The North Grove’s Executive Director Wendy Fraser will be retiring in March of 2025. Wendy has led the organization for the past six years with vision, passion, kindness and clarity and the Board is so grateful for her leadership and steadfast commitment to The North Grove community.

The Board is dedicated to ensuring a smooth leadership transition and has assembled a hiring committee and expects to share information about the search firm and hiring process shortly.

Wendy’s leadership transformed TNG into a community hub where people of all ages can access a wide range of services. Under her direction, the Dartmouth Family Centre and Dartmouth North Community Food Centre came together under one roof – bringing services for families and individuals to a single, accessible location. The shared home then adopted a shared name: The North Grove, a powerful image that represented the care, connection and belonging that are at the heart of the organization.

The North Grove offered non-stop support throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, including the preparation and distribution of 55,000 meals, thanks to Wendy’s careful guidance. She led the expansion of our organization into a dynamic community hub with 26 partner organizations where people can access a wide range of services from free counselling, legal aid, and health services to housing help, tax assistance and more. Most recently Wendy championed The North Grove’s launch as a designated Comfort Centre, to support the community during times of emergency.

There will be other opportunities to recognize Wendy for her immense contributions to The North Grove and the wider community before she retires, but for now we want to say a heartfelt thanks.

Sincerely,

The North Grove Board of Directors

A few words from Wendy

When I started at The North Grove in 2018, we were on the cusp of significant changes. Since that time, our two programs have come together under one roof, we re-branded the organization and we developed strategic directions that focused on expanding services to people of all ages, prioritizing underserved community members, and developing a responsive and well-respected community hub.

In addition, the team also created a vast array of new programming after developing an interim program plan that allowed us to continue to provide support to the community of Dartmouth North during the pandemic.

People living in Dartmouth North face many hardships, from food insecurity to housing insecurity and all of the isolation and challenge that can come from living in poverty. Nonetheless, it is an incredibly resilient, engaged and proud community where people come together at The North Grove (among other places) to support one another.

My retirement is bittersweet – while I look forward to new adventures, I will deeply miss the incredible team, the amazing participants, the phenomenal donors and supporters and the extremely supportive Board of Directors that I’ve come to know and love.

That said, I am happy that I will have another five months with everyone so I can wring every last bit of joy out of my time here.

Thanks to all of you who joined us on this journey. I am incredibly grateful to have spent the last six years of my career with you at The North Grove.

With never-ending appreciation,

Wendy

Wendy's farewell tour

We want to make sure that Wendy’s final five months with The North Grove are full of fun (and maybe a few laughs!) We’re planning some fun activities for Wendy as she winds up her time at The North Grove. Help us build a list of ideas...like cleaning out the chicken coop, or painting a window mural with Jake? How about diaper-changing duty?
