The North Grove's Community Food Centre opened in 2015 in partnership with Community Food Centres Canada. Now one of twelve Community Food Centres across the country, The North Grove CFC was the first in Atlantic Canada.
We offer delicious and hearty community meals throughout the week, including breakfast on Mondays and Wednesdays, lunch on Wednesdays, supper for families on Mondays, and a Friday buffet. Meals are sit-down, where community members have their meals brought to them by volunteer servers.
These multi-week programs such as Young Cooks (for children aged 7-12) and Community Kitchens (for adults) are hands-on opportunities for participants to learn cooking skills and be social. Every week, participants learn, make a recipe, and share a meal with the group. During the winter months, we also hold a Men’s Cooking group to get men in the kitchen!
Our on-site farm gives community members and volunteers the chance to learn all about growing vegetables and plants right here in Dartmouth North. We offer farm drop-in opportunities, and growing workshops for adults and children. You can also sign-up for a garden plot, use our tools and support to grow your own vegetables, plants, and flowers.
Community Advocacy Program
Have a question about Income Assistance? Need help with your landlord? Need someone to talk to? Come to the Community Action Office on Monday and Wednesday mornings, where you can get one-on-one support from a trained volunteer Peer Advocate or staff member.
Good Food Affordable Market
We will have produce for sale at affordable prices. When in season, we’ll have produce from our farm at our harvest giveaway table. We’ll also have a free buffet style meal and coffee/tea. Following the market, we’ll have our Food Demo, a drop-in cooking demonstration, where you’ll learn how to make a recipe and share a snack.
