The Dartmouth Family Centre and Dartmouth North Community Food Centre today announced a new name - The North Grove - to accompany the organization’s new shared space at 6 Primrose Street.
“We know that bringing our family centre and community food centre programs together, under one roof, will make services more accessible to the entire community,” says Wendy Fraser, Executive Director of The North Grove.
The organization, which offers programs that connect people through family support, food and friendship, launched its new name today and shared a video tour of its new family centre program space.
“Under normal circumstances we would hold a big neighbourhood event to celebrate joining under one name and one roof,” says Fraser. “While we can’t be together in person, we are determined to share this moment.”
Work on the new name began one year ago with a gathering that brought together community members, volunteers, staff, Board members, program partners and donors. Dubbed ‘Imagine our Future’ the meeting focused on identifying what made both spaces special and what the future could look like ‘under one roof.’
After the community session a committee was created to work with a trio of experts on a new vision, mission, name and visual.
The North Grove name and logo is the brainchild of brand strategist Larry MacEachern, writer Maura MacNeill, and graphic designer Karen Fowler, who worked for almost a year with community members, staff and volunteers connected to the organization.
“Our new name pays homage to our roots in Dartmouth North,” says Board Chair Anne Cogdon, “North is also a symbol of strength, truth and constancy. Grove is a warm and sheltering place, an area where different trees grow and thrive. It’s the perfect name for us.”
