$100,000 gift to The North Grove to make live music, day trips possible
Making magical summer memories is at the heart of a new donation being announced Friday, June 28th at The North Grove’s End of School Year Celebration.
The community hub, which provides a wide range of family support, food and advocacy programs, is announcing Joyful Connections, a new program to bring recreational and cultural experiences to families and individuals in Dartmouth North.
The program is funded by a four-year, $100,000 gift from supporters Dan and Dorothy Gibson.
“Summertime is for making memories and the Gibsons’ support will make memorable experiences accessible to families and individuals who may have very limited opportunities to enjoy recreational or cultural activities,” says Executive Director, Wendy Fraser.
“More than half of The North Grove's budget is funded by individual donors, foundations and corporate supporters, so gifts like this make a significant impact.”
“Together with The North Grove, we are very excited to bring a new program, Joyful Connections, providing lasting memories and experiences to families and children in Dartmouth North,” said Dan Gibson. “Everything from an end of school BBQ, an outing to Shirley’s Splash Pad, apple picking, and other like outings will be offered to the community.”
Joyful Connections will bring the following activities to Dartmouth North in 2024:
The End of School Year celebration where the new program is being announced
Music on the Farm (regular free musical performances at The North Grove featuring groups such as Canadian Folk Music award winners The Bombadils)
Day trips including Shirley’s Splash Pad and Albro Lake beach
Bus trips including Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum and fall apple picking in the Annapolis Valley
Dan and Dorothy Gibson are presenting the donation at The North Grove’s End of School Year Celebration.
The North Grove supports the entire community, from children to seniors, and is in one of the city’s most challenged communities. At least 33.3% of households in Dartmouth North are living on low incomes, and 49% of children are living in low-income households.
