Board of Directors

Cathy Chenhall
Board Chair

Cathy has worked part-time as a public health nutrition policy research consultant for the past 13 years, following the birth of her first of three children. Prior to that she worked within Nova Scotia’s public health system at the regional and provincial levels during which time she first became acquainted with the Dartmouth Family Centre. Systems and the policies that influence food security, nutrition and population health are long standing passions of Cathy’s that she has been fortunate to have opportunities to address throughout her working and volunteer career. Cathy has been a member of the Board of Directors of The North Grove for the past four years.

Kristina McMillan
Vice Chair

Kristina is currently a Senior Delivery Officer with the Government of Nova Scotia at the Executive Council Office. Prior to public service, Kristina worked in community health and the non-profit sector. She was the Director of the NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre, a project of NorWest Co-op Community Health in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Other roles include time with the provincial food security network and Food Matters Manitoba.  Kristina holds a MSc in Health Inequalities and Public Policy from the University of Edinburgh and a BA in International Development from the University of Winnipeg. She is passionate about community-led change, health equity and food security and is inspired by the work of The North Grove.

Kristine Elliott-Grace

Kristine is a partner at Made with Local, a wildly successful, Dartmouth grown, female-entrepreneur-powered-business. She brings more than 15 years of experience working with local health and nutraceutical organizations, including time as a leading implementation volunteer for the local chapter of the Breakfast for Learning Program. Kristine began her journey with The North Grove by volunteering in the community café and market, and quickly learned that the organization is the heart of the Dartmouth North neighbourhood, and beyond. In her home life, Kristine is a Mama to two little ones. She is proud to be born and raised in Dartmouth, and in her spare time can be found with her family at any of our homegrown restaurants, farmers markets, breweries, street festivals, libraries, and parks.

Natalie Woodbury

Natalie is a Partner and a member of the executive committee at BOYNECLARKE LLP. She practices in the area of corporate/commercial law, tax law, and estate planning and has more than 15 years of experience as a legal and tax advisor to private companies and their shareholders, including many family owned enterprises and professional practices. Natalie is a long-standing member of the Board of Directors of Special Olympics Nova Scotia and has previously served as both Chair and Secretary of the Board. She also serves on the Board of Directors of The North Grove. In addition, Natalie is a member of the Women Presidents’ Organization, the goals of which are to assist women entrepreneurs in accelerating business growth, enhancing competitiveness and promoting economic security.

Anne Cogdon
Past Chair

Anne retired in 2014 following a career in health that spanned more than 40 years.  Anne started her working life as a registered nurse.  In 1987 she received a BSc in Health Promotion from Dalhousie University and held several research and administrative positions with Health Canada, Healthy Dartmouth, Nova Scotia Heart Health Program, Capital Health and IWK. Her final position before retirement was Executive Director of Primary Health at the IWK.  Anne believes The North Grove demonstrate the value of health promotion and the positive life-changing impact that can result for individual and families at the community level.

Sharon Clark

Sharon is a clinical psychologist working at the IWK Health Centre in the Mental Health and Addictions program. Her 20 years working within mental health have strengthened her commitment to opportunities that support a family's resilience and build a community's spirit. For Sharon, the work of The North Grove bring these qualities to life every day. Sharon also loves to garden and grow food in her backyard to eat with her family and to share with her neighbours.

Erin Murphy

Erin recently completed her PhD in Sociology at Carleton University and moved home to Dartmouth. Erin is keen to combine her interest in community development with her background in Sociology, and was drawn to The North Grove because of its emphasis on fostering community action and involvement within Dartmouth North. 

Doug Townsend 

After ten years of working in culinary tourism marketing for Taste of Nova Scotia, Doug and his wife, Chef Renée Lavallée, relaunched their award-winning restaurant in a restored building on downtown Dartmouth’s Portland Street. Since opening their full-service 65-seat restaurant in February 2017, they have expanded their operation to include an adjacent sister restaurant called Little C. Both Doug and Renée have been active volunteers with the Community Food Centre since it opened. They are passionate about building a stronger and healthier community through food. In addition to his role on The North Grove board, Doug also serves a director with Discover Halifax and the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission. Doug lives near Lake Banook in Dartmouth with Renée and their kids Zoé and Phil.
